The Alcohol Academy offeres a range of training subjects with a particular focus on the delivery of 'Identification and Brief Advice' (IBA), a cost effective intervention for practitioners to deliver to at-risk drinkers.
The Academy also provides training on alcohol-related commissioning and strategy approaches and has led on research-based training projects such as the workplace IBA feasibility study.
The Academy has delivered training to a wide range of disciplines including General Practitioners, pharmacists, health trainers, police teams, offender managers and specialist alcohol workers. We often work in partnerhsip with local alcohol services and providers to take account of local needs and referral pathways and have train the trainer experience.
Some testimonials from course participants:
"Excellent one day [IBA] session on alcohol, alcohol related health problems, how to approach patients and techniques on how to engage patients in alcohol awareness/reduction. Very useful training for all HCP's including GP's. Many Thanks"
Dr Anil Shah, Redbridge GP
“We found it a very interactive session, a very educational session, and we felt again it really helped us in moving forward with education to the general employee about drinking, but also when we deal with people who are problem drinkers in the workplace as well, so for us, it definitely achieved what it set out to do”
