Alcohol policy changes and consultations set out

The Coalition Government's new policies and changes for the NHS, Licensing, tax and pricing and Arms Length Bodies have significant implications for alcohol policy and practice as outlined below.

  • Both the Alcohol Education Research Council (AERC) and the National Treatment Agency (NTA) for substance misuse will undergo changes as recently outlined by the Department of Health
  • The new health White Paper has outlined massive reform for the NHS with the abolishment of the Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs) and Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) as commissioners
  • Consultation is open on the proposals to overhaul the Licensing Act until the 8th September 2010
  • Submissions of evidence are invited in respect of taxation and pricing until 31st August 2010
